Espurnes Barroques is a Baroque music festival set in Baroque surroundings and featuring Baroque-inspired gastronomy. It takes place over five weekends during May and June in small, predominantly rural towns of Central Catalonia, located within the triangle formed by the Sanctuary of El Miracle, Cervera, and Manresa, all of which have preserved a unique Baroque heritage.
In a decentralised and seasonally balanced format, Espurnes Barroques presents high-level artistic programmes, always paired with gastronomic tastings from local producers, with a twofold aim: on one hand, to promote young talent by placing emerging artists alongside established names; and on the other, to foster the holistic development of the rural environment across some thirty small municipalities through culture. The festival offers small-scale, affordable experiences with a strong social and educational dimension, creating a unique privilege accessible to everyone.
The engagement of the five senses, the slow rhythm, the heritage discovery, and the post-concert encounters with the performers turn each proposal into an exclusive and intimate experience for the audience.
The festival was founded in 2018 at the Sanctuary of El Miracle, twenty years after the devastating forest fires that destroyed nearly 30,000 hectares of woodland and farmland in Central Catalonia. Paradoxically, this same region has preserved the highest concentration of Baroque altarpieces in Catalonia — saved from the flames of the Civil War that destroyed most of them elsewhere in the country. This singularity inspired the Espurnes Barroques Foundation to place this region on the map under the name Baroque Territory, promoting its integral development through an innovative and transformative cultural initiative.
