The Iturbi Piano Festival of Valencia, founded in 2020, has established itself as an unmissable event for any music lover. Conceived as a prelude to the international competition of the same name, it represents a firm commitment by the Provincial Council of Valencia, through its Department of Culture, to talent and excellence in piano playing.
Under the artistic direction of Ana Guijarro, the biennial festival is held in the spring of even-numbered years, with a programme that brings together great performers and international piano stars. The figure of José Iturbi, whose rich artistic personality and versatile professional career, is decisive in shaping the festival's programme, which offers a wide range of diverse performances.
In odd-numbered years, the Iturbi International Piano Competition of Valencia takes place, a benchmark event since its creation in 1981, promoted by maestro Joaquín Rodrigo (Sagunt, Valencia, 1901 – Madrid, 1999).
This competition is part of the World Federation of International Music Competitions, based in Geneva, which brings together competitions from countries on all five continents, including the most prestigious international music competitions in the world. It is also a member of the Alink-Argerich Foundation, which brings together most of the international piano competitions.
The Iturbi Piano Festival of Valencia takes place in a city that is the flagship of an autonomous region rich in musical tradition. Currently, the Valencian associative movement has 557 musical societies, made up of musicians, students, members and artistic groups such as bands, orchestras, chamber or instrumental groups, choral groups, big bands and other musical expressions.
